For a powder room, a towel ring and toilet paper holder are usually sufficient. Oil rubbed bronze and satin nickel are consistently rated among the most durable bathroom hardware finishes for everyday residential use. Both finishes have a brushed or treated surface that hides water spots, soap residue, and fingerprints better than polished finishes. Matte black is similarly durable and very easy to keep clean. Polished chrome is the most common finish in older homes but shows water spots and fingerprints more readily and requires more frequent wiping to maintain its appearance.
